3M™ Electronic Marker System (EMS) Ball Markers
The 3M™ Ball Marker makes the job of precisely locating underground facilities easier. Other buried markers can be disturbed by backfill dirt or installed improperly so they don’t stay positioned correctly. The 3M ball marker’s unique self-leveling design ensures the marker is always in an accurate, horizontal position regardless of how it is placed into the ground.
The addition of the new 3M-iD markers provides additional functionality by enabling facility data to be stored in the marker to ensure positive identification of facilities. The pre-programmed unique serial number integrates with back office mapping and GIS systems when used for mapping new and legacy assets and points of special interest for construction and maintenance applications.
The ball marker is buried over key facilities during construction or maintenance. Later, the marker is easily and accurately located using a 3M™ Dynatel™ Locator. The locator transmits a signal to the buried marker. The marker returns the signal to the locator, indicating the marker’s exact position. The compact electronic locator gives both a visual reading and an audible tone.
Programmable to include customer-specific information such as facility data, application, material type and size or placement date, etc; 3M markers help accelerate identification and avoid costly mistakes.
The 3М™ electronic marker system is intended to make the job of precisely locating underground facilities easier and faster. The basic component of the system is a durable electronic marker buried above key underground elements in the process of their construction or maintenance.
The marker consists of a sealed shell containing a passive antenna – a low-frequency resonance circuit tuned to a certain frequency.
Depending on the resonant frequency and the color, the markers are used to mark a wide range of underground facilities, such as telecommunication lines, power supply networks, cable television networks, water supply pipelines, wastewater networks, oil and gas pipelines, and so on.

3M™ Dynatel™ 12-watt Transmitter 2200M Series
A newer, higher powered transmitter is the latest addition to the 3M Dynatel products family. This portable 12-watt output transmitter is compatible with existing M-series receivers and provides the maximum allowed induction power. The 12-watt transmitter can be powered by six C-size alkaline batteries, the rechargeable battery pack, or 12V external power supply.
